Vhernier Presents the Pae White Ring Collection

March is fondly recognised as Art Month in Hong Kong, where an enriching array of world-renowned art festivals, exhibitions, cultural summits and performing arts programmes are on full display. As the city sets the stage as the premier destination for arts and culture, Vhernier arrives to celebrate the season with a sculptural statement of its own.

Making its highly anticipated debut ahead of Hong Kong’s annual celebration, Vhernier unveils a limited-edition jewelry suite designed by American multidisciplinary artist Pae White and meticulously crafted in the Maison’s Italian atelier. Conceived as a dialogue between contemporary art and jewelry, the collection marks a convergence of shared aesthetic pursuits, where the organic rhythms of nature meet the precision of master craftsmanship.

THE INSPIRATION
The collaboration kicked off at Vhernier’s flagship boutique in Milan. Its distinctive door handle—a cast bronze crab, elegantly stylized to echo the Maison’s iconic silhouettes—served as the initial spark. For White, whose artistic practice had recently engaged with beach strewn crabs, the encounter resonated deeply. She had long envisioned creating jewelry inspired by the worlds of the sea.

From this shared affinity emerged a design inspired by the complex architecture of a crab’s exoskeleton. White explored the spirit of this anatomy, refining multiple iterations to translate its organic structure into precious stones and metals. The final form retains the vitality of this exploration, distilling countless variations into a singular, sculptural gesture—a hallmark of White’s artistic methodology.

THE RESEARCH
Witnessing the expertise of the Maison’s master craftsmen, White was captivated by Vhernier’s signature Trasparenze technique. In this process, rock crystal is superimposed over precious materials to create magnification and ethereal visual effects. The resulting “unfixed” phenomenon—a shifting play of light—aligns perfectly with White’s ongoing exploration into perception and restless color.

Abalone shells have long fascinated White: their iridescence embodies nature’s capacity for chromatic variation. Its shimmering surface, shaped in part by the kelp it consumes, offered a poetic counterpoint to the crab form. In nature, crabs prey upon abalone; in White’s artistic vocabulary, such relationships—nature in and out of balance, relics gathered at the ocean’s edge—become translated through material shifts and changes of scale. Sea life is reimagined as a ring.

THE COLLECTION
In this collection, the crab’s natural geometry is distilled into striking angularities, brought to life through Vhernier’s signature invisible setting. Here, master stone setters seamlessly embed diamonds and sapphires into gold, breathing movement into the design’s complex articulations.

Each of the ten distinct iterations is crowned by a softly faceted rock crystal orb; acting as a lens, the crystal amplifies the vibrant materials beneath and refracts light to evoke a fluid,

watery shimmer. While united by a singular, bold silhouette, the rings are differentiated through nuanced color gradations and precious compositions—a testament to the Maison’s technical virtuosity and its unwavering commitment to the art of innovation.
